EasySeal bag sealer: keep food fresh without clips

A bag clip does not make a bag airtight. It folds the top over and holds the fold, which slows air exchange down a little and does nothing about humidity. That is why crisps go soft, coffee goes flat and frozen food picks up ice crystals regardless of how carefully you clipped it.

A heat sealer melts the two faces of the plastic together into a continuous seam. It is the same thing the factory did before you opened the bag, and it takes about two seconds.

EasySeal

1. The product

EasySeal

Rechargeable heat sealer that closes a snack bag properly in a couple of seconds.

A handheld heat sealer with a timer so you are not guessing at the seal, a magnetic back so it lives on the fridge door where you will use it, USB-C charging instead of batteries, and a bag opener built into the body for the next time you need to get back in.

How to get a good seal

  • Pull the bag flat and taut before sealing — a wrinkle in the plastic is a channel for air
  • Leave a couple of centimetres of clear plastic above the contents so nothing is caught in the seam
  • Let the timer run its full cycle rather than pulling away early
  • Run your fingers along the seam afterwards; a good seal is stiff and slightly glossy

What it works on

Standard polyethylene bags — crisps, cereal liners, frozen vegetables, bread bags, freezer bags, coffee bags with a plastic inner. Paper bags and foil-only packaging will not fuse, since there is no plastic layer to melt.

Why the magnet is not a gimmick

Kitchen gadgets fail by ending up in a drawer. A magnetic back means it is stuck to the fridge at eye level, next to the bag you are about to close — and that is most of the reason this one gets used daily while the drawer version does not.

What bags can it seal?

Plastic-lined bags: crisps, cereal liners, frozen food, bread and freezer bags. It will not seal paper or pure foil.

Does it need batteries?

No, it charges over USB-C.

Can I open a bag I have sealed?

Yes — there is a bag opener built into the body, and you can reseal below the previous seam as long as there is bag left.
